Shows To Watch: Downton Abbey

Happy Downton Day!

If there's any show that climbed to the top of my 'watch!' Ladder super fast, it has to be Downton Abbey. If you're into Historical Fiction and such, this show will be the apple to your eye. It's a British produced show, but if you're from the United States or anything you can find it on Netflix, or you can look for it online. (warning, you will encounter some ads.)

The concept of the show is based on the Earl Of Grantham: Robert Crawley and his wife and 3 daughters. It's also the story of their servants, which provides a great contrast between the rich and luxurious Crawleys and the bustling servants who work behind-the-scenes and assist the Crawleys in their everyday life. I know 'servants' may sound a bit demeaning but they are actually fairly treated. But this shows how things really were back around the 1900's, it's a great way to not get bored of history.

The first series begins in 1912, when people find out the Titanic has sunk, and the Crawleys' original heir, named Patrick, has died. Of course, the heir is now traced to Matthew Crawley. After that, the plot starts unraveling and you're pretty much glued to the screen.

Another thing to look forward to other than the plot itself? The Costumes and decorations. Downton Abbey is the paragon of costume class, mostly because during the times the 'elites' roamed, dress and proper etiquette was a necessity. The costume designers definitely didn't skimp out, check out these pictures:

(That is just the costumes on the mannequins themselves)

now for some human beings wearing costumes:

(Sybil Crawley [or Branson now hehehe] Is one of my favorite characters)

Downton Abbey
(Yes! It's the actress that plays Minerva McGonnagall in Harry Potter!)

(Cora Crawley, an American Heiress at the time and The Earl Of Grantham's wife)

(Sybil, Mary, and Edith Crawley)

(and my OTP; Sybil Crawley (Branson hehe) and Tom Branson, who formerly was a chauffeur.)

anyway, hope you enjoyed this and watch it when you get the time!

I'll probably do Doctor Who next, I'm such a brit-lover.
